Volunteer with Bunbury Sea Rescue

Bunbury Sea Rescue is always looking for volunteers, either operational at sea or on land back at the base. We have a four-step induction process for new members to integrate and make them feel welcome.

or visit the base at Casuarina Harbour on Thursday (7pm) or Sunday (9am).

Step 1 (initial visit)

  • Welcomed by Commander and senior BSR members
  • Information given on attendance book and sign in requirements
  • ‘Registration of Interest’ form filled out
  • Familiarisation with the base, housekeeping and safety details
  • Limited basic training may occur

Step 2 (continued visits)

  • Provide recruit with New Members Information Pack
  • Show/identify where the following information is located:
    DFES Induction Manual, 
BSR Policy Manual, 
BSR Constitution
, BSR Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Show where hi-vis safety vests are located and when to wear
  • Training folder issued to new recruit
  • BSR training system explained
  • Hands-on training will occur

Step 3 (after 3-month period)

  • Committee approves recruit of nomination to member, signs off ‘Registration of Interest’ form and
    submits it to DFES along with other information
  • Once registration is approved by DFES, new member number is issued with copies of:
    BSR Policy Manual, 
BSR Constitution, 
BSR Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Training will be well-advanced

Step 4

  • Uniform officer orders official DFES uniform consisting of pants, jacket, high-vis shirt, official blue shirt and all-weather shoes.
