About Bunbury Sea Rescue

Welcome to the Bunbury Sea Rescue website.

Marine Rescue Capability

Bunbury Sea Rescue is an organisation approved under the Fire and Emergencies Services Act to provide marine rescue services from the Port of Bunbury.

The rescue services are normally initiated by the WA Police Service who can receive a distress signal from a coast radio station, EPIRB satellite distress signal or a flare sighting.

Bunbury Sea Rescue operate a 8.5 metre catamaran powered by 2 x 200hp inboard diesels fully equipped to manage marine rescue assistance

The vessel is fitted with HF, VHF and 27 mHz radio, direction finding equipment and radar.

Crewed by trained and qualified volunteers the vessel can deliver 24-hour callout response 365 days per year.

In conjunction with helicopter rescue services the service can cover large areas of ocean and has the capacity to operate well offshore.

Meetings

The Management Committee meets on the second Monday of each month at the Base in Casuarina Harbour. Meetings commence at 1900 (7pm). Visitors are welcome and all members are invited to attend meetings.

Group Duties

The group duty crew muster at the HQ on Sunday mornings from 0900 to 1200.

During this time a number of tasks are performed and on water training is conducted. Visitors are welcome, please ring first.

Public service, promotional, social and fundraising activities are held at other times.

Membership

Two types of membership are available:

  • Active Membership which includes rescue and/or support duties, and
     

  •  Members who are supporters of the service and enjoy certain benefits including information nights, advice and access to radio monitoring services.

Enquiries about membership should be made to the contact numbers on the website.

Active members are welcomed to the service and following the processing of an application become members of the Group enjoying the protection provided by the Act under the FESA Act. They also enjoy legal and insurance protection and opportunities to complete training up to the Certificate 3 in Volunteer Marine Rescue.

Members enjoy certain discounts on training provided and become part of a boating fraternity that will support them in their marine activities.
